Dim Sum here at Tim Ho Wan is a little pricey compared to the other restaurants that I’ve went to like 126 and Swee Choon. I guess is because it is located inside a mall and rental & expenses in Singapore is not cheap! But the standard is definitely up there! (It’s a one Michelin star restaurant back in Hong Kong!)
Four of us have tried a couple of dishes yesterday and I’m going to rank those dim sum based on my preference. I don’t know if the original branch at Homg Kong produces dim sum of the same taste, but I will definitely spare some time to queue for the original one at Mong Kok during my trip there!!
#1 Their signature char siew bun and it is best if consumed hot. I did takeaway for this dish and tried to eat it when it’s cold, you can no longer feel the crisp on the crust, but i can still taste the char siew inside with a little bit of juice. XDXD ( by the way, I don’t think they do provide proper takeaway yet, but they do offer you paper bags and plastic bags if u want to order their food home.) $4.50 for three pieces.
#2 I just felt that this glutinous rice so nice, probably I would need to eat it again to describe the taste clearly. $5 for one.
#3 This cold dessert is just so presentable and pretty! The osmanthus’ refreshing smell lingers around when you chew on this cake. $3.50 for 3 pieces.
#4 Soft and fluffy, you can totally tell the difference from the ones that my mum always buy from the market. Best steam egg cake that I’ve tasted! $3.80 for one.
#5 The first time I’ve tasted this unique dish, a combination of vermicelli roll and pig’s liver. Pig’s liver is so soft and bouncy ( is this even the right discription?! Haha! ), and I think it goes well with the vermicelli roll that I’m forever in love with! But I guess i would give this dish a level up if there a bit more flavour in it. $5.50 for 3 rolls.
#6 Har Gao will never be the first dish I will go for when I go for Dim Sum, but I definitely love the crunchiness of the prawn wrapped inside by a thin layer of almost-transparent skin. $5.50 for 4 pieces.
#7 Hot, juicy and flavourful. I like! $5.50 for 3 pieces.
#8 Char siew goes so well with the vermicelli roll. The amount of char siew is just right, spreaded evenly that I can taste the bits in every bite. Can I have more, please? $5.50 for 3 rolls.
#9 I always love my siew mai to dance up and down with my teeth inside my mouth, and it did it! XDXD $5.50 for 4 pieces.
#10 This Yam puree with sago doesn’t have this ‘wow’ factor for me to order it again for my next meal there. Probably because of the bland taste. The consistency is alight, just the lack of favour that I thought it should have. $3.50 for one.
#11 My first time having seaweed mixed with beef. But sad to say, I’ve only tasted the seaweed, and only seaweed. Did they forgot to put in the beef? $4.20 for 3 pieces.
Will I visit again? YES, provided that the queue is not that long! I went there around 2.30pm and I was given a queue number 425 and they were serving 216 at that moment. 0.0 TOTALLY A SCARY LONG QUEUE. It is because its just the second day they opened in Singapore? But we (or me?! XDXD) decided to wait because the four of us met up just for that!
Caught a movie named Saving General Yang at The Cathay while we waited. Got totally stuck to WuZun’s nice body in the first part of it, as well as his perseverance to send his father’s body back home! I love his brothers too, in the end his father’s body and the weapons’ of his brothers finally returned home with WuZun (sixth son). 😢 Never expect that only the sixth son made it instead of 6 sons.
